This is a topic that I’ve discussed with my peers and family for years, and a topic I personally feel very strongly about. I have had continuous healthcare coverage from the day I was born, up until my early 20s. Healthcare was never something I ever had to think about. It was a given that I could walk into any hospital or doctor’s office that accepted my insurance card, and if I was sick I would be taken care of. I’m sure that’s partially because of both my youth and naevity at the time about how healthcare worked, but I digress.

Now that Hr.3962 is passed the House, it is time to look forward and ponder the Senate.  Since we have moved on (and since the other open thread is getting so long it’s unwieldy), consider this an open thread for that.

Where do we go from here?

It has been feeling a lot like summer the last week or so. And I am not just talking about the weather. It seems as though teh crazy brigade is baaaaack!!!

The House is holding court leading up to the likely vote on healthcare this weekend – perhaps even today.  Will healthcare reform pass into law in the foreseeable future?  Will it look like something that most people can be happy with?

Consider this an open thread for following and discussing the pertinent happenings.

Your Excellency;

I am writing to officially resign as a member of the Roman Catholic Church. After a long and personal struggle, I came to this arduous decision while witnessing a rather disgusting and disagreeable series of events occurring in the United States at the moment, most recently in the State of Maine.

As you know, the people of Maine voted this week to deny the right for Lesbian and Gay couples to enjoy the same marriage rights as everyone else. A right awarded to them by the elected civilian government of Maine. The Diocese of Portland was very involved in getting parishioners all over the state to the polls to vote down these rights, including an unprecedented movement in the Northern part of the state, where there is a devout Francophone Catholic community. to get undecided voters from the pews to the polls to do, what is it they called it?; God’s Will.  A similar vote occurred just one year ago in California. I understand that this is a decision your church agrees with. I will not pretend to understand why. I will merely state that because of we disagree on this issue, I can no longer, with good conscious, remain a member of a group that chooses to accept what I personally see as persecution and bigotry as legitimate belief. On top of that, I can no longer feel right supporting a group that cherry picks when they can enforce their laws.

Not much of a diary because I have to go get ready for class shortly, but I just couldn’t let this pass. Here we have Republican John Boehner speaking outside the US Capitol, asserting that “PelosiCare” represents the “greatest threat to freedom” he’s seen since joining Congress. There are a number of problems with this little rant, but the most embarrassing comes around the 2:30 mark.

Yeah. That would be our fucking House Minority Leader confusing the Constitution with the Declaration of Independence. And Bachmann nodding and quoting along in the background.

Am I the only one who’s amused, embarrassed, and disgusted all at the same time?

Just caught this terrible news on MSNBC.  So far, reports indicate seven dead (7) and possiblly a dozen wounded.  Suspects were in US Military uniforms.

FORT HOOD (November 5, 2009)-Army officials have confirmed a violent incident has happened Thursday afternoon on post.

The reports indicate there may be at least twelve and maybe even as many as fifteen victims involved in this incident.

Details have not been released but it is known that ambulances and police are converging on a location in the center of the sprawling military post.

Ambulances from several agencies have been dispatched.

One unconfirmed report indicates an armed gunman has fired several shots and may have hit several people.

Ft. Hood officials report the area is not secure.

Unbelievably sad news today. More from the Onion.

All of those tragic deaths and not one of them Glenn Beck! Dear God, how much longer can we take this injustice? However, an Onion a day helps keep the Glenn Beck away.

Chris Matthews had an interesting conversation with Eric Cantor on Tuesday.

I am not that disturbed by yesterdays election results. Republicans are feeling overly smug and Democrats received a needed kick in the ass. I hope the pain is motivational.  

Yesterday saw US voters going to the polls for several state elections and ballot measures. For weeks, the media and Republicans have been touting any Republican victories as indicators of voters rejecting Obama and his policies…spinning the results as some sort of a gauge of voters’ support for Obama’s first 9 months in Office.

What a crock.
