Because we need a good laugh, dammit!

Or at least I do.  Pointing and laughing at the current parade of horribles in the GOP nominating marathon is sort of like sniggering about the tree branch sticking out of the mouth of the elephant that’s charging your Land Rover, after all.  Suffering and injustice continue their longstanding engagement worldwide.  That neighbor’s dog still won’t stop barking.

So here are some things that made me crack a laugh loud enough to scare the cat off my lap this morning.  I hope they’ll do the same for you, even if you have to borrow a cat.

Treat it as an open thread, share whatever else brings a smile to your face in the depths of this weary winter.

First off, Stonekettle Station.  If you’ve already made the acquaintance of Jim Wright, you’re immediately rubbing your chill-chapped hands in delighted anticipation.  If you haven’t, put down that cup/mug/glass/bucket, clear your oral cavity of any liquids, and enjoy:

    but the Yukon, Northwest Territories (and Nunavut) aren’t provinces… ;~)

    Ontario is my favorite, but BC is pretty cool, too.

    Avoid Saskatchewan and Manitoba, everyone else does.

    Down East is supposed to be wonderful, never been there.

    Quebec city is a nice tourist joint, and in Montreal you can have a good time while being looked down on (just like being in Europe, but cheaper ;~).

They saw it as just another “issue”; we (the rank and file) saw it as a defining moment, South Carolina’s firing on Fort Sumpter, the civil rights murders in Mississippi and Alabama, etc. They failed to realize how widely and deeply the entire base was energized, and what we expected.

    Nothing has ever revealed the corruption and cowardice of the Dem party like the Public Option fiasco. It pulled the curtain back, for good. Things will never be the same. Never.

    so to recompense, this is (at a minimum) interesting:

    The group calls itself ‘Walk Off the Earth’.  They’re from Ontario (see how I tied into your diary there?  😉  they do a lot of creative cover songs.  in the case below, it’s a considerable improvement over the original (IMO).

    The US Secret Service is investigating after a suspected smoke bomb was thrown over the fence of the White House during a mass Occupy protest.

    No arrests were immediately reported after Tuesday night’s incident and demonstrators dispersed from the area.

    A Secret Service spokesman said the projectile was thrown as 1,000 to 1,500 Occupy DC protesters gathered outside.

    hey occupy, ur doin it rong. populist movements require popularity.  ominous chants that can be construed as threats and lobbing smoke bombs at the white house?  yeah, that’s fucking stupid.
