Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

The Daily F Bomb, Monday 2/4/13

Good morning, Bomber and Meeses and everyone else. These Mondays really come around inexorably, don’t they?

Questions of the day: Of all the liberal causes out there (and they are legion), which is nearest and dearest to your heart? What is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax? What is your preferred snack food for big televised events (from inaugurations to award shows to sporting events or the new season of whatever show)? Gardens: Wild or formal? Pets: Purebred or mutt?

Twitter Tornado

Most of you implied you did not care who won the Super Bowl last night, but perhaps some watched for the commercials. Or maybe not. Still, it was quite a night, and I have a gazillion tweets that I would love to post, 99% having to do with either the game (some tying it in to politics) or the ads.

There was a Dodge ad with the tag line, “God made a farmer” that was narrated by Paul Harvey. Very rah-rah, isn’t white rural America the best thing ever.” Here are a couple inspired by that ad:

There was a power outage at the Super Dome mid game, right after the half time show. San Francisco was losing badly before the outage. They came back strongly after the outage, though not enough to win.

Maybe more later in the comments.

  1. OK, I didn’t tweet ONCE about the Super Bowl, so that’s why I am not quoted.

    But I have answers!

Of all the liberal causes out there (and they are legion), which is nearest and dearest to your heart?

That is a TOUGH question. I think I will go with civil liberties. Nothing is more American than civil liberties. I’ve been a member of the ACLU for decades.

What is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?

My bed. Oh, you said “sit”. Umm, I lie down and relax, I hope that’s OK.

What is your preferred snack food for big televised events (from inaugurations to award shows to sporting events or the new season of whatever show)?

A plate of charcuterie will disappear if you set it before me.

    Gardens: Wild or formal?

    Wild, I think.

    Pets: Purebred or mutt?

I am not a big pet person, but it seems that mutts are better for all concerned; I’ve read a bit about the problems of purebred dogs.

  2. lulu57

Getting ready to go play tennis, so I’ll tackle the questions when I get back.

Where are all the Richard III tweets? 😉

Hmmph…lesson learned: do not battle the Tudors or you will end up being buried under a parking lot. Nowhere in the news stories have I seen mentioned whose parking lot it was….I am suspicious 😉

  3. Somehow seems appropriate on a day when I cannot brain.

Even though my team was not playing and the outcome was unimportant to me, the intensity of the ending kept my brain on overdrive well past the time I laid down to sleep. Today I woke up late (not “slept-in” … that is usually done purposefully) but LATE and now behind on everything. Thank goodness iriti does the Monday morning check ins.

As per usual, I did not understand most of the ads and the ones I did understand weren’t funny to me.

GET (YOUR EDGY AD) OFF MY LAWN!!!

Of all the liberal causes out there (and they are legion), which is nearest and dearest to your heart? Fighting hunger–Yes, We Can and Feeding America

What is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax? We made our front bedroom into a lounge. It has lots of books, a TV, and a couch.

What is your preferred snack food for big televised events (from inaugurations to award shows to sporting events or the new season of whatever show)? Chips and salsa

    Gardens: Wild or formal? Wild

Pets: Purebred or mutt? Mutts. Most of my cats started their lives as ferals.

  5. Of all the liberal causes out there (and they are legion), which is nearest and dearest to your heart?

    – Human rights.

What is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?

    – Depending on the time of day and season, Donna and I have several Coffee Spots. (in the warm:) The morning on the porch, the afternoon on my office deck, the evening on a little spot I’ve carved by the water looking down the bay and at night sitting on the dock.

What is your preferred snack food for big televised events (from inaugurations to award shows to sporting events or the new season of whatever show)?

    – I’m easy, but a dish of cold fruit chunks with a creamy dip makes me a happy Moose.

    Gardens: Wild or formal?

    – Wild(ish). My favorite was a stretch of waterfront at the lodge that had been six foot tall suckers. Turned it into grass winding through seventeen beds and rearranged logs and stumps so the little bay had enough flow not to be stagnant,  with interlocking water gardens and water lilies from both sides for the turtles and fish. (I really wish I was a better photographer)

    Pets: Purebred or mutt?

    – Mutt. Benny is our last purebred, slight tear duct problems and picking him up from the breeder made me not want to see a dog breeder again.

  6. Jk2003

    Liberal cause: women’s reproductive rights

Favorite spot to relax:  we have a really comfy couch in the living room that old cold sunny days the sun hits and it is so nice

Preferred snack:  potato chips.  Mmmmm salty crunchy

    Gardens:  vegetable

Pets:  rescued whether mutt or purebred.  If you want a particular breed find a breed specific rescue group and get yourself one of those.

What is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?

In the “Papa Chair” in the Living Room.

What is your preferred snack food for big televised events (from inaugurations to award shows to sporting events or the new season of whatever show)?  Just so long as it doesn’t have raisins…

    Gardens: Wild or formal? Wild

Pets: Purebred or mutt? Being a mutt myself, I prefer other mutts.

first migraine in quite a while.  my own fault for eating too many chips (which is an answer) and not drinking enough water.  i really think the extra hydration has been the key to fewer headaches, after i took care of some other stuff.

we are having a nice calm morning here after our calm relaxing weekend.  i think there is freezing fog out there somewhere.  but it is getting light out and we can tell for sure.

voting rights. i thought about this after the election. also climate change (which shouldn’t be just liberal) and hunger (long-term concern).

my sofa? after the kids are in bed?  also i love reading in bed.

    chips.  or crackers.  salty/savory.

    wild, w/ some control.

mutt.  for strength.   and maybe not just pets.

  9. raina

and during commercial breaks, checked the Super Bowl for their commercials. I saw a bunch of them, and none of them impressed me. I think they are being over-hyped now. I did watch the last 5 minutes of the game and cheered for Baltimore. Yay, Easties!

    ************

    Equal rights for all.

    My bedroom.

Chips and any good dip. I’m easy, but I especially like the spinach dip in a bread bowl that my sister makes.

I would love to have those cottage gardens.

    Mutt.

  10. Floja Roja

seem to have fled my head, but the tweets remind me.

Bud has a new beer, I guess all those microbrews are cutting into their revenue (rightfully so). The ads featured models of both sexes in black and gold and mood lighting. They were pretty bad, as I assume the beer will be.

Go Daddy alienated everyone and hopefully lost more customers than they gained with hot model type kissing (in close-up) your stereotypically pudgy unattractive nerdy guy:

Apparently Doritos are addictive, but did not produce any good tweets that I saw. And Mercedes has a new car that makes you strong and powerful that you can afford without selling your soul to the Devil (though WIllem Dafoe makes a great Devil).

Calvin Klein did an underwear ad, this one aimed at women and/or gay men:

There was Volkswagen ad, already controversial before it was aired on the show, wherein riding in a cute VW bug made everyone happy and talk with a Jamaican accent.  My feed came in both for and against. Me, I thought it was dumb and the first tweet here echoes my thoughts:

    There was a Subway ad featuring Jared;

And Taco Bell’s ad had old people (maybe an homage to Cocoon?):

There were movie ads, too. The Star Trek one looks good, and they all had really cool destructive explosive blow things up real good FX.

  11. slksfca

…that has a formal area with geometrical beds, fountains and such, but with lots of informal/wild surrounding it and threatening to take over. Best of both worlds!

  12. raina

I love the making your shed look like a cottage idea. I’ve looked at pictures of them and they make me drool. We have a shed that would work, but the paint is peeling all over, requiring scraping, and that’s what puts me off. Anyhow..here’s a lovely one.

  13. Via Chicago

Hey, I can post from my work I.E. browser today!

    Of all the liberal causes…

My emotions are most affixed to social issues. Equality, justice, and the safety net falls under that umbrella as well. As much as I care about it on a logical level, I just can’t get as riled up about money issues and whether we track down and arrest every corrupt banker.

What is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?

I have a meditation mat in a room with lots of windows. That’s my spot.

What is your preferred snack food for big televised events…

    Chips and guacamole.

    Gardens: Wild or formal?

    They both have their merits.

    Pets: Purebred or mutt?

    I love them all.

    Good day, all.

  14. ILS 27L

I’m getting ready to move this Saturday.

After living in my own house for the last ten years, having said house cost me ALL if my savings when the market collapsed and I had to sell to get to my new job, I’m moving to yet another apartment is search of a quiet comfortable place to live.

There are much worse problems to have, so I’m good

    How Y’all doin?

    Here’s my test answers…..hope I pass ;~)
