Saturday Morning Herd Check-in: Grazings and Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

I have been absent from here the last few days, and have no idea what the temp is, but I’m getting really grumpy about it being so cold for so long. A couple of inches of snow yesterday a.m., and almost out of catfood!!! Ugh. Fortunately it warmed up enough to clear the roads later, so I managed to hop to the store and stock up again, so I’m good again for 10 – 14 days or so.

This daily posts midday for me, so I’m usually working and don’t stop in until later. It’s the same as many other posts, so the slower pace is better for me. However, working at the PC all day means I also need to get OFF it sometimes!

The best thing that can be said about February is that it is a short month. We are slowly trying to re-do our kitchen. Doug is in the basement working on a combination radiator cover and cookbook shelf. We bought a small island. Now we need a couple of stools to go underneath. This is a pay-as-we-go long-term project.

predicted for tonight!  SNOW!  My daffodils are blooming for Pete’s sake.  And the viburnum too.  Arrrgghh!

Happy Saturday to one and all. 32 degrees here, headed to a whopping 36 degrees, with a slight chance of snow showers. Around here lately it’s the slight chance that gets you.

Headed to the land to help trs build doors for his new workshop, which is currently doorless. The shed came with doors, but they were small, so we just had them make a larger rough opening for which he is building custom double-doors. Just for fun we’re making them vintage, kind of like the one below except without the air gaps because this is trs we’re talking about after all. Then we’ll use vintage style black hardware that looks as if it came from a blacksmith shop. Should be very cool.

It is 9 degrees here in northern Illinois.  My husband has a three day weekend!  We are going to talk with our lady about our taxes today.  We also have a showing (second look for this one, cross your fingers), a birthday party and my husband has a show tonight with his band.  No rest for the weary…  Have a great day all.

It’s 8:38. I’m off to the National Archives, where I have the distinguished Reader Card which anybody in the world can get just by asking for it..

    TTYL.

here and all the more so because the wind isn’t up and shouldn’t be getting up today. We now have new windows along the north wall in the living/dining room and it makes an appreciable difference.

the forecast until Monday, when rain is on the menu.  Sometimes I get really hungry for tacos but yesterday I went overboard and made a double batch of taco meat and a huge bowl of pico de gallo.  Gonna be eating tacos for the forseeable future, not necessarily a bad thing.  Kelley said she wanted some but 700 miles is way outside my delivery zone.

Right now it’s in the mid-50s; we hit 70F yesterday and should get close to that again today. Tomorrow the cooldown begins, with rain in store during the week.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

starting to come in…..  My sinuses are acting up, but not as bad as yesterday though.

72 hours to email time… Having something to count is about the only way I’m going to stay sane through this, I think.  I had a mini meltdown Wednesday over this crap.  I know not a whole lot of time has gone by.  I know it seems just like yesterday for them.  But, it also seems like an eternity!!  Especially since I’m contract and the project that I was hired for has been put on pause.  I could be let go at any second and they’re ‘finding’ work for the two of us contractors.

predictions – up to… Wait for it… ONE INCH!!  Right now, it’s mostly sunny and 48, so I am heading out for more “landscraping” – picking up the innumerable pine cones and other arboreal detritus, trimming my the absurd winter growth on the shrubs and perennials I trimmed in December, and thanking [insert name of deity here] that I am spending time at my beautiful Casa Carolina.

Mr. Carolina and I will be moving here full-time later this year. It still feels surreal, like this is someone else’s home that we get to use as a vacation place in exchange for yardwork and house maintenance.  I reality, it took a combined 87 years of work between the two of us to reach our current situation. Not long in geologic time 😉

Hope all you moosie friends stay warm, well fed, well-loved, and healthy… And not too affected by February’s creeping despair.

  13. Heavy snow predicted for 5 p.m. or in other words you may get enough to cover a the ground by a 1/4 inch. You know after having lived in both Denver and Chicago I have to say it really cracks me up to watch the panic here in North Carolina. I swear two flakes and they declare a state of emergency and close everything down. 😉

I use snow a lot in my pictures.

Greetz to All, a day late.

We can got some snow Friday night here in northern Maryland, but it melted on the driveway overnight.  I was expecting to have to deal with crusty stuff when I woke up, as was the case earlier in the week.  However, it was almost all gone when I took Abelard, the Standard poodle, for his morning constitutional.

This morning, stretches of the driveway look like they have broken glass on them… ice balls that have partially melted and dropped from branches overhead.

Much chiller today than yesterday, very breezy.  Woodpeckers, nuthatches, and titmice are feasting on the mixed grille at the seed and suet feeders.  Lots of juncos on the ground, scouring for crumbs.   If those birds were smart, they would get up on the feeders, but very few of them do.  They are confirmed ground feeders.  Intelligent Design in action, I guess.
