Friday Morning Herd Check-in: Grazings and Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

24 degrees and no snow yet. It’s about to begin. Sometime this afternoon it will change over to rain and then my little town will freeze solid.

but not getting a lot – thankfully. 24 here going up to 39.

I’m staying in and grading papers – tons of them.

Hope all Moose in the path of big snow dump are safe.

I have a 2-hour delay here in the Pittsburgh area. We are expecting ice at almost any moment. I work in Washington county, south of where I live. The ice is coming up from the south.

So….my daughter is bummed because she has to get to high school and leave in 10 minutes–the ice hasn’t made it here, but I can bum out for a little while longer.

Coffee in hand, waiting for bagel to get out of toaster oven, hoping weather doesn’t materialize. Currently 28&deg, headed for a high of 34 with a predicted mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. If it materializes, I’ll be salting streets. If it doesn’t, I’ll be running up to Berkeley Springs, WV this afternoon to get a piece I’ll need for the electrical installation. If I don’t get said piece today, I’ll have to take time off work to get it (I get off early today, because I’m scheduled to work a couple hours tomorrow morning. My co-worker’s last day for at least three months is today. He’s getting his ankle fused. My boss told me yesterday that it would probably be at least a month before he could hire me help.

This weekend’s projects: wiring the shop, and starting tech rehearsals for the play I’m currently working on. I also have to go grocery shopping with iriti. Could stand another three day weekend…

Just below freezing, heading for just above.

Shoulder giving me fits today. Now in a sling because I kept finding myself doing things I’m not supposed to without thinking yesterday (it’s my left shoulder and I’m left handed).

Would like to curl up with a good read on my Kindle and hide from the world today, but alas I cannot.

  6. I’m getting ready to take my niece to work. I drive 2 hours and 100 miles a day but they need the money and she isn’t confident enough to try and drive. I take her and hubby drives kids around.

Probably going to continue working on art through the weekend. I want to update all the old stuff on my website. As soon as that is done I’ll be getting the site advertised and see if I can get some art commissions to supplement the Social Security.

I’m doing a combination of updating and new art. This is a new piece called Starship Wonder.

It’s a nippy 30 degrees in DFW headed toward a sunny 50. Yesterday’s expected deluge dropped one tenth of an inch of much needed rain, but it did drop the temps. Oh well.

Went to a new doc yesterday….I like him..Morehouse grad, Navy trained and spent a full hour getting to know me…..Wow!

    Be excellent!

    Mmmooo

sidewalk half an hour ago.  That was nice of him.  Plows have made their first pass.  Not going anywhere today and will shovel/blow once the snow stops and return the favor.

Rant about reactions to snow – this is Iowa people.  It’s winter.  It’s supposed to snow this time of the year.  Places were cancelling last night activities before the snow even came.  There are lots of school 2 hour delays and closings all for 6 inches of snow.  What is your problem?!?!?!  Plan accordingly people!!  In the 80’s no one would have blinked at this snow fall.

Part of the problem is that the powers have cut back seriously on road crews, taking longer to clear the roads, let alone getting salt/sand down.  The other problem is that I don’t think anyone has ever taught the younger people how to properly drive in snowy conditions and they just freak out.  I try not to go out in the height of the snow fall and until the plows have made their first past because of the idiots on the road.  I know how to drive, I was taught, they don’t and weren’t.

We got two inches of gorgeous snow.  I had hoped for more but will take what I can get.  The kids are eating breakfast, I am going to do a dance workout(just put on music and dance till I can’t stand up anymore – the kids love it) then go out and shovel.  Have a great Friday!

I awoke to the sweet sweet sounds of my wife shoveling our snow.

And now through a long series of events yesterday involving a discussion about Wagner and Bugs Bunny I’m got Pilgrim’s Chorus stuck in my head.

    So glad it’s Friday…

everything in Columbia.  I-70 between KC and St Louis is still a mess and a lot of schools and some businesses will stay closed here today.  We got either another dusting of snow or some freezing rain overnight because the driver’s side windows of the car have more stuff on them.  I’ve just talked myself out of clearing the snow off today because it will be above freezing and sunny tomorrow, which will help.

and the winds have died down to a steady breeze under 15 mph so we’re going to start on the bedroom windows. The ones we’re taking out have some panes of pre-war glass, they’re made of redwood and in remarkable shape. Looking for a salvage buyer for them since we’ve plans for only a couple.

Good day to let yesterday’s rain sink in. Learned something new yesterday: I had put a padlock on my fence gate, the kind of lock that you set to a five-letter word.

For a while, all was well, lawn crew could get in and out fine with the code. While I was in NC, they left a message that they couldn’t get the lock to open. After over an hour of trying everything I could, I borrowed a pair of bolt cutters from a neighbor, but they were no match for the case-hardened steel.

Mr. Carolina, deploying his degrees in physics and engineering, cut it off using a Dremel tool with a cutting blade (and safety glasses!). If you are ever stuck in this situation, this is the way to go!

I nuzzle your Moosely snoutages. 🙂

Blue skies this morning. Irving Berlin would be writing songs about our weather. Probable high: somewhere in the 60s.

I’m using my second-best coffee mug, and I swear the brew tastes different. But I’m trying to Rise Above it.

    Happy Friday, peeps!

Decided to nap instead. But I’m going to make every effort to get it done today. Getting it cut extra short because I’m determined not to have too bad a case of bed head in the hospital, where I am hoping to receive visitors in state, something like the levées of Louis XIV. ;-p
