Friday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings and Grazings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

23 degrees out with an expected high of 38. Last cord of wood has been delivered for the winter. Cabin fever is setting in at work. Everyone is on edge. Serious button pushing going on. I’m lucky I work alone.

I hate snow. I have to go to the office. then I have to drive to Lancaster to pick up my kid for spring break. Did I mention how much I hate snow.

shining.  I fear two of our viburnum won’t bloom, they got zapped in bud two weeks ago.  Is it spring yet?

footed members of the herd. There’s a light snow in NY and the trees are gorgeous looking. Have a lot to do, like avoiding deadlines. Hope it’s a more productive day for all.

  5. It’s 24 degrees here now and expected to push up to 37 today.

Last evening in Facebook I asked:

What’s the best thing someone has done for you in the last few days? What’s the best thing you’ve done for someone else?

Not a lot of answers to that yet but some good ones.

It is 17 degrees in Saint Charles this morning.  Going to be sunny and near 40 today.  Busy day today with just chores and such then dinner with friends and their kids tonite.  Have a great day today.

the high 70s today. Also overcast and damp feeling which won’t last long enough to produce rain. I brought back a bag of meyer lemons from our friends’ mother’s tree and so far have put up two jars of preserved lemons and one recipe of lemon curd. There’s another cup of juice frozen in tablespoon amounts too, didn’t waste any. Today I’m baking gingerbread from a recipe I found that does not call for molasses instead maple syrup. That probably will take care of the taste I don’t care for in gingerbread and I need something to put the lemon curd on.

the NYC snow turned FIERCE. All expectations turned upside down. But birthday party for BSRH jr. will be able to happen as Snow will not stick. Out we go to the glories of Upper West side shopping emporia as we are the caterers–and not a single one pf the stores will be called Whole Foods–yum yum and hurray for locavoria.

The menu for this most important decade turning birthday is composed on Security questions–idea that can  easily be adapted by any parent or SO.  For the main dish, for example:

What is the one dish BSRH jr. remembered her mother cooking beside frozen pizza—-

If I run into PLF515,I’ll let you know!

i took this pic on this day last year,

it was the earliest i’d ever seen bees

in Chicago. would like to see some right now.

ha! i called dibs on a new dog yesterday!

he is a rescue and had been in shelters for over

2 years. his name is EARS and they stand tall.

he is an unusual Frenchie/Pitbull mix and a real

sweetheart and for all the ‘snoutists’, he has

    one but it’s just…. slightly abbreviated.;-}

    i’ll take some pics today.

    have a great day everyone!

Not enough, but any rain is good rain. If it would rain about this hard for a week or 2, we might get out of the drought. Of course, 2 weeks with no sun would drive us insane. And we have all the visitors in town for SXSW (film & interactive starts today — hoping for a Joss Whedon sighting — he is premiering Much Ado here), the Rodeo and state basketball tournament. All in town, right now.

And I wrote a diary about the AIDS Ride.

Still trying to come to wake up here. I’m usually a morning person, but not today. Allergies are flat kickin’ my behind. Cedar is sky high, followed by elm and ash…and grasses. A little rain is all I need, just get the pollen out of the air so I can breathe and stop sneezing!

Cloudy but on the warmish side today. Spring break starts as soon as the last bell rings at Tolar High School. My youngest son is chomping at the bit wanting to get it over with. He’s already sent a text saying he’s fairly sure he’s coming down with something, would I please send someone to pick him up? Umm..yeah right. He’s coming down with I don’t wanna be here-itis! Cough cough :o)

Off to fill my tea cup, get a few items ready for posting– my husband has offered to go to the post office for me. Thankful for that…I don’t wanna go outside!

late – looking at icky wet snow that’s been coming down since last night – thankfully we aren’t going to have a ton of it, but roads up here will be very icy this evening when the temps drop.

Back to the keyboard – sigh.

It really did feel awesome to sleep in, BUT … I must confess that I now miss having a nurse wake me up every few hours with pain pills. Will I ever be satisfied? ;-p

  14. Pam from Calif

    Enjoy your day everybody.

What is a good size for youtube videos?  I don’t want to break margins.

No problems, except that it’s really windy outside and there were moments when I was a bit unsteady on the crutches. Only one or two seconds where I actually felt scared of tipping over, the rest was easy-peasy.

Irritating note: the oxycontin cost me $95 because Medicare pursed its lips in disapproval. It must be categorized as “recreational” nowadays. Thanks a LOT, Limbaugh! I’m just glad I had enough in the savings account to pay for it.

So, the surgeons gave me enough for three weeks, and then it’s off cold-turkey. But I have a deal with my regular doctor to ease me down more gently than that, which I’m going to need after nearly a year of opiate popping. Last thing I need is withdrawal pains & jitters just when I’m starting to feel okay for real…
