Saturday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least content.

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

If you are a new moose (or an old moose) looking for a second chance to make a first impression, you can start right here.

And if you are looking for Khloe, your regular Saturday morning checker-inner, she will return Sunday filling your ears with worms and putting a smile on your face. Computer hardware malfunctions are the pits but I think she will be ready to roll tomorrow:

Boy, are you all a sight for these sore eyes! My life is so dreary without you. Abernathy Pootie did seem to especially enjoy my time away from the ‘puter. Something about me being at his beck and call.

Spring like happenings will be going on in the air today. It’s suppose to hit 57! If the sun comes out maybe it will make my third shift skin all sparkly.

My pootie, The Bullwinkle, woke me up at 4:30am demanding nomz. He basically walks back and forth on my head until I give up. I have been wide awake since then, and an hour after his meal, he has been lying in my bed snoozing. I have been reading and occasionally envying his good fortune. I believe he will have another great day, sleeping, eating and chasing imagenary things. I expect I will be due for a nap soon.

  3. We slept in until past 6:30, stayed in bed a while longer. It’s lovely to get 8 hours of sleep!

It’s 40 degrees here, rain on the way. Temps heading to low 50s.

Here’s my brother’s beautiful cat Ed, doing a little train spotting:

  4. I’m not worried. There will be lots of them on sale in the next two weeks. Those are the best ones anyway. They are more chewy.

Thanks, Melanie, for some good lolling this morning.

The coffee is good. The backyard critters are busy. Not too much to do.

had a splendid birthday.  I may be a bad cat mom but I haven’t let one of my critters into my bedroom in years.  I’ve got to have at least one fur-free zone and as I no longer sleep like I was being paid for it, not having a cat bouncing around is a really good thing for me.  The good news for Keke is that I’m an early riser so breakfast is quick to come her way.  She also has a comfy bed with one of Sara’s pootie pads on it and she at least visits it overnight.

fifties. Soon it will be summer. Ugh. Have to get some Cadbury’s chocolate Easter eggs today (the kind that look as though they have a yellow yolk inside) and then hope I don’t eat them all.

the humidity is nice until it burns off later when we reach 89 degrees. It’s been so dry my skin has rebelled. The ends of my fingers have erupted in what the dr. said was “numular eczema”, I think that just means bad spots that happen to be round. It only hurts if I touch something so I’m keyboarding with my fingernails. Look like one of those old 50s secretaries with my hands draped over the keyboard.

  8. It is cool and clear and just gorgeous. Unfortunately I’m coughing my head off so I’ll probably stay in an take it easy. In between laundry loads of course. Pixie “helped” me change the sheets this morning. I could have done it in half the time without her help.

Going to work on the website today and get it updated.

    Finished “Wolf Moon” last night.

Sunny and who-knows? degrees today. I don’t even look any more, I’m always dressed for the wrong day.

I went to Annapolis this week to get the MD Secretary of State’s office to authorize my client’s marriage certificate for her residency permit in China, where her husband works as an engineer.

Next stop, State Dept for their authorization and after that the Chinese Embassy! I’m old enough that the phrase “Chinese Embassy” still sounds strange.

It was so nice to be outdoors yesterday, and best of all to be able to walk without thinking about every step….yay! Now that the flower pots and the patio are cleaned up I’m feeling much more enthusiastic about enjoying a nice Easter lunch with the family.

53°F on this fine morning. It’s just beginning to get light under foggy skies.

Had fun yesterday afternoon at the pub, but I pooped out after two pints. And it was awesome having GTP come up to meet us. How many people would bother to drive 60 miles for a beer with friends? I love that guy 🙂

…my coffee isn’t hitting the central nervous system like usual. (If I didn’t know better I’d say someone switched it for decaf.)

All I can do is grab another mugful and hope!

…who owns my corner store. Yesterday he closed the store early because he’s taking his wife and kids (all of whom work in the store) on a week’s vacation to their native China. First time the store’s been closed for more than one day; first vacation for them since buying the place 20 years ago.

I don’t know whether this is a sign of a recovering economy or not, I’m just glad for this family that they can afford to take some time off and reconnect with family members and friends across the ocean.

  14. Daughter in MD had a biopsy of her thyroid earlier this week, 5 samples taken. The results show her nodule is BENIGN, though everyone involved was surprised at that result. Obviously it is still something to be watched, but at least for now the news is good.

…crafting this tiny door and affixing it to a tree in Golden Gate Park. The story is getting national attention (I just saw it on Good Morning America). Here’s what the NY Daily News says:

A miniature door at the base of an elm tree in Golden Gate Park is creating a big hubbub.

No one knows where the little hinged brown door, which isn’t even a foot tall, came from, or what purpose it serves, but its presence has enchanted people of all ages.

Park officials have stated that they plan on leaving the door just as it is, because it hurts no one to believe in elves (or words to that effect). 🙂

  16. “Where is my wife and who is that Stepford in the kitchen??”

This is my second time this week for baking cookies. And anyone who knows me knows I’m not much of a baker.
