Sunday All Day Brunch: The Guardian Series Part One

Cross-posted from Street Prophets)

Welcome to Sunday All Day Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new in your life. I have a couple of leads on where to promote my art so I’ve been updating all my old art on my website with new models and textures. I want everything to look as good as possible. I did a series in 2006 called the Guardian series where I tied everything together with the same dragon and rainbows. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could do a series that was artistic and symbolic and united together. It wasn’t easy to do but the more I got into it the more I enjoyed creating it. The dragon was really a pretty clunky model and could not be posed. I just finished updating the whole series. These are the Guardians of the Seasons. I’ll be posting the Guardians of Time, Elements, and Concepts in future diaries. I’ve included my comments on the pictures from my website.

The Daily F Bomb, Sunday 3/3/13

Happy last day of your weekend, Bombrewskis!  I hope you all have a delightfully slothful Sunday.

You have the right to remain silent, but I wish you wouldn’t…

Interrogatories

I’m going to borrow a question that was regularly featured in Bon Appetit’s little back page chef interview: What historical person or persons would you like to have dinner and drinks with? Expanding on that, what fictional characters (assuming it was at all possible) would you like to have dinner and drinks with? What fictional place you you like to visit? When you travel, do you prefer to find accommodations like the natives or do you prefer to stay in places that are more like what you find at home? Do you usually cook at home or go out to eat?

Why Don’t Hmong-Americans Vote Republican?

By: inoljt, http://mypolitikal.com/

Perhaps no group in America has suffered more from Communism than the Hmong community.

The CIA first recruited the Hmong, impoverished tribes living in the hills of Southeast Asia, to help fight the Communists in Vietnam and Laos. When the Communists won in Vietnam and then Laos, the Hmong were persecuted and sent to camps for their anti-communist role. Eventually many found their way as refugees to the United States. They faced opposition from the Clinton administration, but strong support from Republicans enabled most to come to America as immigrants.

How do the Hmong vote?

More below.

Weekly Address: President Obama to Congress “You must compromise”

From the White House – Weekly Address

In his weekly address, President Obama tells the American people that a series of harmful budget cuts-called the sequester-have taken effect because Congress failed to act. Because Republicans in Congress refused to compromise to close tax loopholes for the wealthiest Americans, hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose their jobs or see their paycheck reduced, and middle class families will be hurt. Congress must join the President now to replace these cuts with a balanced approach that reduces our deficit while also making smart investments in areas that help our economy grow.

The Daily F Bomb, Saturday 3/2/13

Good morning, Bombasticas! Did you sleep well? Grab some coffee and indulge my curiosity…

Interrogatories

Are you superstitious? Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them? Do you believe in astrology, even just a little? Are you graceful or clumsy? Have you ever sued anybody? Have you ever been sued?

LOST AND FOUND

Six months after the environment ministry declared the Japanese river otter extinct, officials in Ehime are planning “a full-fledged search” for the creature in response to reports of recent sightings.

JR Central began operation of the new N700A shinkansen-the first bullet train that can run on autopilot.

A group of Japanese and French scholars claims that Echigo-ya-a kimono shop that grew to become Mitsukoshi department store-was the “world’s first large-scale retailer and the biggest store throughout the 18th century.”

Tokyo Station and New York’s Grand Central Terminal are set to become “sister stations” at a ceremony in the US this month.

A 73-year-old Ibaraki restaurateur discovered 31 photographic plates depicting the attempted coup d’état in 1936 known as the “February 26 incident.”

WEEKLY RUMINATIONS

Hi there everyone.  We made it through another week and into the sequester we go.  Sometimes I just can’t believe the idiocy that reigns in congress.  Lets see what happens now.  My congressman has gotten emails from me.  My senators have heard from me.  My facebook feed is full of uninformed ranting from people I haven’t seen since college (in a very red state).  Methinks it is time for a facebook vacation.
