Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least content.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

Hai ((JanFab))! 65 degrees and the dry front passed through about 30 minutes ago. It feels heavenly outside. We are expecting a high of 78 dry degrees today. A perfect Michigan day!

8 days left until the move!

A Saturday morning earworm for you….

Looking forward to a quiet day here, perhaps enlivened by a visit from FFDIL. She is finally done with her stint teaching 4th graders in poor rural Mississippi, a job she loved and didn’t love at the same time. This summer she’ll stay with her parents (less than a mile from here,) find an apartment in Ann Arbor, drive to Oklahoma to see Son for a few days, and then move again. She starts grad school this fall in a public policy program, finishing in 2 years, just before their wedding.

Current temp here is 66, heading to mid-70s. It’ll be mostly cloudy all day but probably no rain. That’s good, as the rivers are already full.

Last evening we drove to the reservoir to see the release chute spraying water into the river at 14,000 cubic feet per second. But the whole area was already flooded, so it was blocked off. The Army Corps of Engineers expects the res to top the spillway (the dam) on Tuesday.

Workers are busy trying to protect vulnerable areas, putting up temp flood walls, berms, sandbags… Roads are closed and low areas are flooded already.

No more rain, please, at least for a few days.

    heading for a high of 89 F.!

Hope to do some gardening after breakfast. After that we’re going to a Grand Opening of the local Doggy Play Care facility and taking Monty Beagle too.  He’ll play with the other dogs while we tour the facility.  It’s a wonderful place for dogs as they play in a huge room and get taken for walks by guys on roller blades.

Melanie, did your future daughter-in-law work for Teach for America?  My granddaughter wants to do that.  She’s on course to graduate from Purdue next year, at age 20. Her advisers have told her it’s best to work a couple of years before going to law school.

Hoping to get some more writing done later today.

80+ hour weeks will do that, especially by Saturday.  Adding staff soon, so I just need to hang in there a little longer.

Meanwhile, we’re at 51 degrees this morning with beautiful blue skies and just a smattering of wispy white.  It’s supposed to top eighty today.

I’ve gotta squeeze in time to down at least a little more caffeinated beverage before dashin’ out the door.

Best wishes to all the Moose-type peeps for a great Saturday.

70° at the beach today. That’s what they say; anyway, it’s going to be a warm one here.

My walking adventure has been postponed until tomorrow, which is just as well because it will be cooler. So today I’ll spend at home and in the neighborhood.

    Happy weekend, everyone!

here in the desert as we head for another day of triple digit heat. We do have another storm forecast for later to cool things down. Right now we’re drinking coffee and enjoying a peaceful morning.

at least my part of the city got only rain, a bit more than 3 inches yesterday.  Hopefully going to dry out for a bit and be sunny by this afternoon.  Just in time to join in helping a niece move to a new apartment.  Just heard on the news that poor Oklahoma is going to be under the gun again today.  If anyone cares to venture over to GOS, weatherdude has a good post up about what happened last night in OKC.

expected to get up to 96 today with 61% humidity.

With all the rain we’ve been getting, it means a lot more mowing for me. I actually enjoy going around on the mower, but I don’t want to do it that often.

just spending the weekend doing chores and such…the heat will make it more enjoyable.

  10. Spent the last two days with the stomach flu. Not fun. Headache subsiding and flat ginger ale finally staying down so this is just a weak wave as I crawl back to bed.

I do have a picture for you though called Illusion.

before I start the run-around that is today. The weather is hot here but my heart is with those in Oklahoma. Dreadful news about the storms there.

  12. Been awhile since I ruminated with the herd I had to poke my head in and say MOOOOOOSE.

Synchronicity was released 30 years ago today…Moo

We’re coming off a cool week in So. Cal, and this weekend will see the return of really warm days.  We normally have a thing called June gloom where it’s cloudy and cool in the mornings and burns off to a nice 82 degree day we’re not quite on that pattern yet but I can feel it’s coming.

I quoted Alan Watts to a parishioner today, and instead of responding to the profundity of the message, I got, “Who was Alan Watts?”

Maybe I should have quoted Naomi instead?

Progress…. I can breathe easier, my eyes are less swollen and red, my throat isn’t burning, I don’t ache as badly, and all I want to do is sleep. If I’m finally not getting sicker I must be getting better!

  15. but I just found something in the fridge that … let’s just say, I thought we were done with it 2 weeks ago. Not gonna eat it now…

As to the actual dinner/supper/late meal, I’m making rotini pasta with pesto sauce. And to the homemade pesto I’ve added a chopped tomato, a few green peas, and some chopped Kalamata olives. It will be yummy!
