In about six weeks (oh, crap – it’s only 6 weeks away!), I’m walking the half of the Austin Marathon, with a group I’ve been training with since summer. My team raises money for the Austin Children’s Shelter — our team slogan is “Creating a world without child abuse & neglect, one step at a time.” If you want to skip the pleading, you can donate to Austin Children’s Shelter – look for me – 1st column, 10th name

$10,000 in matching donations for Wendy Davis!
This will be a short one, but — my amazing, wonderful, fantastic state senator Kirk Watson is matching the next $10,000 in donations to Wendy Davis. Kirk is an old friend, a great feminist, who was part of the resistance to the anti-choice shenanigans last summer. And here he is, really stepping up to turn Texas blue next year.

I like this #GivingTuesday idea – update!
There were a couple of stories about this on the news this morning, and it is all over my FB & Twitter feeds. Giving Tuesday, to follow Black Friday & Cyber Monday, where people (supposedly) were all being self-indulgent. I like it not only because I’m raising money for the Austin Children’s Shelter – look for me – 1st column, 10th name, but it seems to balance things out. Come into the rest of the diary & I’ll tell you why you should give to the Austin Children’s Shelter.
Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can Choose – online telethon Monday
I searched the tags, and haven’t seen anything about this event Monday, and it is really huge. Lizz Winstead and lots of other fabulous people are going to do an online telethon supporting organizations in Texas that are trying to maintain access to reproductive freedom.
Help me raise money for the Austin Children’s Shelter
I joined this group that’s training for the Austin Marathon & Half Marathon. I’m doing the Half – walking the Half. The team raises money for the Austin Children’s Shelter, and each of us pledges to raise $750. having just finished an amazingly successful fundraising campaign for AIDS Walk Austin, I’m fresh out of ideas, and that’s where you come in. Help me come up with another way to raise the money? Unless you just want to donate to my Austin Childrens’ Shelter page
It was a beautiful day – last AIDS Walk Austin diary this year
I just came home from AIDS Walk Austin & it was fantastic. I got to meet Cleve Jones, the man who started the Quilt – what an inspiration! And I wore a crown – people who raised over $1,000 were given crowns. There aren’t many of us who have done the Walk all 26 years, but 2 of us carried the Walk banner in the last 2 blocks. Come below the fold to see pictures.
remember the sequester? another AIDS Walk Austin diary
I was logging out of the AIDS Walk Austin site, after thanking the donors from Friday’s amazing donations, when I saw this statement from AIDS Services of Austin:
This year’s sequestration means ASA is losing $78,000. And we need YOU to help us meet our goals in order to maintain the high standard of care we offer in Central Texas.
Wow. Lost in all the talk about the shutdown & the potential default has been the disaster that is the sequester. Come below the fold for more on why you should donate to this cause.
If AIDS Walk Austin can raise $5,000 today, that will be matched
AIDS Walk Austin is 10 days away, on Sunday the 20th. The Walk as a whole has raised about $84,000 of their $225,000 goal. Which is not close enough. Yeah, there’s still 10 days, and I’m no mathematician, but that’s a heck of a lot of money to raise per day.
This day, Friday, they have a challenge. If the Walk as a whole can raise $5,000 that will be matched. Come with me below the fold and I’ll tell you why you should donate.
I was at the Austin party for Wendy Davis’ announcement
I was at Scholz’s for the party the Travis County Democratic Party threw so we could watch Wendy Davis make her announcement for governor. The room was packed – just about literally. And there was so much excitement — I was drafted to help at the table selling t-shirts & we sold tons. Come & see the pictures I took.
AIDS Walk Austin – it would be Magnificent to get matched donations
The first 25 donations of “at least” $100 are matched today, so today would be a great one to make a sizable donation. AIDS Walk Austin is in less than a month – on Sunday the 20th. I’ve only raised 14% of my (admittedly crazy high) goal of $5,000, so I thought I’d share some music & ask for donations. I’d kinda like to make it to at least one thousand dollars, even if five thousand is out of reach. If you want to skip the U2 song & my babbling, you can make a donation at my AIDS Walk Austin page. This is the 26th year for the Walk & my 26th year of walking it, and I really want step things up this year. And here’s me, talking about why I’ve walked every year of the Walk:
