According to the sometimes dubious Guardian, Hillary Clinton will accept Barack Obama’s offer to become the United States’ 67th Secretary of State.  The article’s extremely light on details, but if this is true we’ll see more information emerge pretty quickly.

Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned.

Obama’s advisers have begun looking into Bill Clinton’s foundation, which distributes millions of dollars to Africa to help with development, to ensure that there is no conflict of interest. But Democrats do not believe that the vetting is likely to be a problem.

As the world turns favorable eyes on America again, there is one group that is upset.  Outcast.  Disowned, discouraged and disenfranchised.

The following is an article written by one Barack H. Obama.  A mostly unknown young man of twenty-seven years of age, Mr. Obama is a community organizer in Chicago.  The following is an interesting piece, and while Mr. Obama is a  relatively obscure individual, the tone and content I believe speaks to our own efforts at organization and activism to improve the lot of mankind in this world.

Keep an eye on this young man, he just might be something someday.

Getting older has quite a few drawbacks, namely the aches and pains that come from an abused body, but it also has some benefits. One of those benefits is a lifetime of experience and memories. That bank of memories tends to keep older people from getting too excited about the newest fad. If anyone is entitled to co-opt the phrase, “Been there, done that”, it’s older people with lots of life experiences. Perhaps that’s why the only age group that failed to go overwhelmingly for Obama was the older age group.

Because I am a member of that older age group, my political experience goes back quite a bit. The Presidential election of 1964 was my first direct involvement with politics. I was 17 years old that year. Like most young people at the time, I was devastated by JFK’s assassination. Because of that desolation, it was easy to back his party in the ’64 election. It didn’t hurt that LBJ’s opponent seemed like a scary whacko. Politics was in my blood.

We were successful in 1964. Although I was too young to vote in that election, I had great hopes for the future. Today, I can only shake my head at such naivety. Unfortunately, in the 10 elections that were held from 1968 to 2004 I’ve only voted for the winner once – Bill Clinton in 1996. None of the choices I had over the years were what I would call inspiring. In fact, I haven’t felt inspired by a politician since the death of Bobby Kennedy.

Barack Obama came to Sarasota Florida today for an intimate gathering with about 15,000 people.

I volunteered and had the honor of assisting the elderly and disabled into the stadium, keeping them all hydrated and otherwise fussing over them.

And gosh but it felt good!

This morning Republican former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin Powell and former Secretary of State endorsed Barack Obama for president.

“He has met the standard of being an exceptional president.” Powell said.  “He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure.”

There may be a reason John McCain has been hesitant to attach his name or voice to the Obama/Ayers relationship.  Mr. McCain dips his foot into the pool a little deeper each day, almost as if he is “testing” the water.  Is he more worried about the reaction from potential voters or is he concerned about the effective counter-punch he may receive from the Obama campaign?

My guess is the latter.

For months we’ve been rightly warned that the only hope for the Rovian styled McCain campaign was to paint Barack Obama as an ‘angry black man’.

I see the charged comments about ‘palling with terrorists’, Ayers, not being a ‘real American’  as deeply offensive, but above all provocative. They want to provoke Obama. They want him to respond angrily, and then they can say he’s played the race card first, and thereby remind the electorate he is black, black, black and potentially angry.

Now we all know what happened yesterday
