Thursday Coffee Hour: Stonehenge and Other Stone Circles

(Cross Posted from Street Prophets)

Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you and what’s on your mind. Stonehenge and other stone circles have fascinated mankind since they were first discovered. There have been many different theories on why they were built. One of the prominent theories is they were used in astronomy and tracking the sun in order to know when to plant. I frequently use them in my artwork.

Sunday All Day Brunch: The Art Wall

Welcome to Sunday All Day Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new in your life. When I moved in I was faced with a long wall in the living room. I put up matted prints of my art work but most of it was old stuff. I decided to take down the old stuff and reuse the mats and put up new work. I have one larger piece and found a place to print it. The rest I can do on my home printer. Currently the art gallery has these pieces.

My Irish Themed Art

I do all my art on the computer now due to arthritis in my hands. My main programs are DAZ 4.5 for figures, Bryce 7.1 for putting it all together, Photoshop for small touchups, and Turbosquid for a lot of my 3D models. I have always liked doing themed pictures and as it got more and more difficult to try and come up with gifts for a Mom who had everything she needed I started doing Irish pictures for her. Every year I’d do a special St. Patrick’s Day themed picture. After we lost Mom our Hospital Chaplain asked me to do a tribute picture for Mom. She was so proud of her Irish heritage that the picture was set in Ireland. Here are some of the pictures I have done and some thoughts on them.

Thursday Coffee Hour: The Guardian Series Part Four

Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new in your life. I have a couple of leads on where to promote my art so I’ve been updating all my old art on my website with new models and textures. I want everything to look as good as possible. I did a series in 2006 called the Guardian series where I tied everything together with the same dragon and rainbows. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could do a series that was artistic and symbolic and united together. It wasn’t easy to do but the more I got into it the more I enjoyed creating it. The dragon was really a pretty clunky model and could not be posed. So I just finished updating the whole series. These are the Guardians of the Concepts. These were the most challenging of the whole series to do because I was taking abstract concepts and trying to make them into a concrete picture. See previous diaries for the Guardians of Time, Elements, and Seasons. I’ve included my comments on the pictures from my website.

Creating Art

When I was in second grade my teacher Mrs. Bluestein wrote on my report card “Take a look at her art!” With encouragement like that I’ve been an artist all my life. When arthritis set in my hands and I could no longer hold a pen or paintbrush for any length of time I turned to computer-generated art. In the last couple of years the tools available for computer-generated art has exploded and the techniques available now are finally at the point where I can create the art I want. I have been asked to explain how I do my art from the concept through the finished product. So follow me as I show you how I created my latest work called “Sisters: The Dragon King’s Daughters.”
