Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.”

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else”

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

    here in the Hudson Valley.

Nothing interesting to report – good to see Republican’s tanking in the polls – but the cost to people being harmed is grievous.

    Time for more coffee!

that Alice Munro got a Nobel. Am stunned. Was just reading her on the subway the other day. Good for her. Am going to go read all about it and then face the “other” news. Hope it’s a good day for all and sanity finds it way to Washington.

Eating breakfast & watching the news. Today I need to actually do a couple of things. I need to research what some things go for on e-bay, I’m going to put them up for sale for the charity my running group is raising money for. And write up some good descriptions.

And I want to see Gravity. And there’s a fundraiser at 5:30. So that sounds like a full day.

  4. JG in MD

I haven’t watched DVDs on my office computer because office.

I checked out Lincoln from the library the other day because laptop.

Looking forward to a rainy day movie in bed. Into each life a little rain and an award winning film must fall. Happy I am.

in Northern Virginia.  Daughter-in-law is feeling ill from morning sickness so I have to get dressed and take Miss Preschooler to day care.

Wanted a morning at the gym today–we’ll see about that.

Other than that, probably will work at headquarters this afternoon and go hear our local candidate tonight at the community center.  If it’s hard work that wins elections, she’ll win. I’ve never seen a candidate work as hard as she has!

Hope everyone will have a good day. It’s Thor’s Day, after all!

    kicking in about 4 am.  Shutdown’s getting closer to home – Gov. Beebe has temporarily closed all federally-funded activities for the duration.  That may or may not include our American Terrorism Research Center, depending or whether or not we’ve already got the funds from them for this year’s phase.  I’ve got County Budget Committee tonight – will probably be long but not contentious as the departments we’re looking at have their own dedicated funding that we have no control over (i.e., we can tell them “you can’t spend it” but we can’t “give it back” or use it in another line to cover something else).  At least I hope it won’t.  Gotta go.  Everybody have a nice “Caturday Eb” 🙂 {{{HUGS}}}

High forecast is room temperature and slight breeze.

Leaves are beginning to turn color. Peak color season here is usually toward the end of the third week of October.

    Otherwise, not much happening.

I met a friend for lunch yesterday and then took our grand girl to the park. It was nice to be outdoors and away from the news. My friend is well educated and has just returned from a trip to Europe so it was interesting to talk with someone who isn’t consumed with the R Virus!

I’m going to try to keep my balance today and follow the news but not become as overwhelmed as I have been feeling.

    Fall Is In The Air

The autumnal equinox took place on September 22, marking the end of summer and the start of fall across the Northern Hemisphere. Autumn is the season of harvests, festivals, migrations, winter preparations, and of course, spectacular foliage. Across the north, people are beginning to feel a crisp chill in the evening air, leaves are reaching peak color, apples and pumpkins are being gathered, and animals are on the move. Collected here are some early images from this year’s autumn — more will come later as the season unfolds.
