I came out as a lesbian in 1981. I had known I was gay most of my life, but put faces and a community to that knowledge in the late 70’s, as the gay community starting fighting for equal rights in earnest. I remember reading articles in Time and Newsweek in the late 1970’s

President-elect Obama’s Press Conference With Text and Video
President Elect Barack Obama gave his first press conference since the election. The primary focus was on the economy. I thought he looked very Presidential.
The following is a statement read by President-elect Barack Obama before his first press conference since Election Day.
This morning, we woke to more sobering news about the state of our economy. The 240,000 jobs lost in October marks the 10th consecutive month that our economy has shed jobs. In total, we’ve lost nearly 1.2 million jobs this year, and more than 10 million Americans are now unemployed. Tens of millions of families are struggling to figure out how to pay the bills and stay in their homes. Their stories are an urgent reminder that we are facing the greatest economic challenge of our lifetime, and we must act swiftly to resolve them.
The United States has only one government and one President, and until January 20th of next year, that government is the current Administration. I have spoken to President Bush, and I appreciate his commitment to ensuring that his economic policy team keeps us fully informed as developments unfold.
Rahm Emanuel
I am very please to see President-elect Obama choose Rahm Emanuel as his Chief of Staff. Republicans are already squealing their fear and protestation, but this only solidifies my respect for President-e Obama. He needs a savvy, scrappy, bare knuckle kind off COS to play bad cop to President-e Obama’s good cop.
Rahm served under Clinton and has been an Advisor and now a Congressman for almost twenty years. I really am for bipartisanship, but the Reagan era is over. I want to see true cooperation for the benefit of the country and her citizens, not the corporations and the wealthy elite.
This choice gives me more assurance that President-e Obama understands the extreme nature of politics in Washington, DC. and that he is ready to stand toe to toe with the forces against him.
Why Wait? Evict Bush Now!
A spontaneous celebration formed around the White House last night after the election was called for President Elect Obama. Fox had an interesting response to the event.
Celebrations like this occurred all over the country. Many of them simply happened without any planning.
Ask Not…
I have a couple of important issues that I want addressed by our new President. God, after eight long years, it feels so good to call someone President again. President Obama.
However, I am going to skip over my desires and speak to something I think our new President needs. Something our country needs. Something our world needs.

Free and Fair Elections?
It is my belief that George W Bush stole the Presidency in both 2000 and in 2004. Many of us keep harping on this concern, but I feel that this is the most important issues facing our country tomorrow, and for elections in the United States of America for generations to come
I am very frightened that the Republicans will steal the election again tomorrow. I think that the media has largley skimmed over this issue since 2000. At this time Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann have done the best job covering this threat to our democracy in the main stream media.
Robert Kennedy Jr walks us through a few of the most horrifying scenarios facing us tomorrow.
Heartbreaking
Barack Obama’s Grandmother has died. My heart goes out to Barack and his family.
Give Me a Fracking Sports Metaphor!
I am not a big sports fan. I have my reasons, of which none alter my admiration for true competition between worthy opponents. I am a huge fan of political elections, but find a similar distaste for the commercialization of what should be a pure expression of the wishes of the people.
The interesting thing is, sports and politics have a lot in common, and today a couple of sports metaphors seem to be the best expression of the mighty battle we have fought. This is the last few moments of eight (twenty eight?) long years of a losing team.
It is still a nail biter, and many of us are on the edge of our seats, feeling as if we will lose our minds waiting for the final score. Hang in there peeps and if you keep working, I am pretty sure we have this one in the bag.
