McCain wins!

You have to hand it to the people on the McCain team: Their combined predictive powers are truly amazing. In fact, they’re so good at seeing in the future that they knew John McCain had won tonight’s debate even before he officially announced that he’d be attending.

The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza notes that an ad proclaiming “McCain wins debate!” was already running on the Wall Street Journal’s Web site Friday morning. (A screen shot of the page can be seen here.) The reader who tipped Cillizza also saw a second ad that contained a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis: “McCain won the debate — hands down.”

See McCain wasn’t afraid to debate Obama, he is just being a nice guy and trying to let Obama off easy.

This is Our Moment

Watching Barack Obama talking about the economy right now, has suddenly made it very clear what we must do. Obama is laying it out in his speech. I will link it when I can find it.

My first impression of the speech is very positive, and gives me the hope that Obama now has the issue he will win on. He needs to hammer this issue every possible moment. He needs to articulate how he will fix the economy, show the country how the republican brand is wholly responsible for the current crisis, and get Congressional Democrats (and any republicans who want to keep their jobs) to support a comprehensive, thoughtful, and fair solution to our economic woes.

In order to make this happen, we must make Congress reject the bush/Paulson ‘good old rich boy bail out’ they have currently proposed and work with Obama to come up with the afore mentioned plan.

A Diary Rescue and Update on The View interview with the McCain’s

tarheel74 posted an excellent diary yesterday about The View interviewing Mr and Mrs McCain. My Mother asked me if I had seen the episode, and then told me it was the toughest interview she has ever seen with the McCain’s. This prompted me to watch the full interview and read tarheel74’s diary. The only problem I had was s/he did not include the full interview. I think everyone in American should see this.

Remembering September 11, 2001

Began as a response to Linfars excellent diary and crossposted at mydd

Lin, thank you for bringing us to the real. I cannot watch the news on this day, and have not been able since 2001. Anything they do seems to cheapen the memory.

I was at a training in Duluth that day (four days actually), learning how to conduct forensic interviews with children who may have been sexually molested. This was very early in my career as a CP investigator.

During our midmorning break, many of us started getting phone calls. None of us knew what was going on, and as we wondered if we were at war, our trainers finally called us back in to continue. We got bits and pieces throughout the day, and we all  tried to call family and friends when able. We finished early that day, and I rushed back to my hotel to watch the news for the rest of the evening. I remember thinking how the inconceivable had been happening with greater frequency, as of late.

Hurricane Palin and The Real McCain

I really do not like Sarah Palin. That being said, this really is not a diary about Governor Palin. It is about my much greater dislike for bush and Cheny, and even Reagan for that matter. In 1990’s I used to think that John McCain was one of the few decent republican. Chuck Hagel is another. While I absolutely believe that Al Gore actually won the election in 2000, I thought McCain would have been the better choice over bush. I also thought that McCain got a very raw deal during the 2000 primary from bush’s minions.

Any previous respect I had for John McCain has evaporated over the past eight years, as he has moved closer and closer to an administration that has (almost?) ruined our country. My dislike, intense distaste, and disgust for him has increased phenomenally over the past few months. As of late, I have wondered if we are just seeing the real McCain, after all these years. The most credit I can give McCain, is that he made a decision to sell out to the bush league in 2000.

Is Sarah Palin Racist?

Is Sarah Palin racist? Judge for yourself.

“So Sambo beat the bitch!”

This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and who asked that her last name not be used, Gov. Palin was eating lunch with five or six people when the subject of the Democrat’s primary battle came up. The governor, seemingly not caring that people at nearby tables would likely hear her, uttered the slur and then laughed loudly as her meal mates joined in appreciatively.

“It was kind of disgusting,” Lucille, who is part Aboriginal, said in a phone interview after admitting that she is frightened of being discovered telling folks in the “lower 48” about life near the North Pole.

Then, almost with a sigh, she added, “But that’s just Alaska.”

Racial and ethnic slurs may be “just Alaska” and, clearly, they are common, everyday chatter for Palin.

Besides insulting Obama with a Step-N’-Fetch-It, “darkie musical” swipe, people who know her say she refers regularly to Alaska’s Aboriginal people as “Arctic Arabs” – how efficient, lumping two apparently undesirable groups into one ugly description – as well as the more colourful “mukluks” along with the totally unimaginative “f**king Eskimo’s,” according to a number of Alaskans and Wasillians interviewed for this article.

But being openly racist is only the tip of the Palin iceberg. According to Alaskans interviewed for this article, she is also vindictive and mean. We’re talking Rove mean and Nixon vindictive.

No wonder the vast sea of white, cheering faces at the Republican Convention went wild for Sarah: They adore the type, it’s in their genetic code. So much for McCain’s pledge of a “high road” campaign; Palin is incapable of being part of one.

Yes She Can!

Can Sara Palin unite the Democratic Party? Yes she can! I have been trying to watch the Republican National Convention this week and really the only thing I could force myself to take in, whilst heavily medicated, was McCain’s speech. I did choose coffee and chocolate as the main part of my regimen, but I am still on pain killers, and taking one was a serious error.

John McCain’s speech was the most boring, annoying, and inadequate speech I have ever heard a nominee of either party give. The only thing that helped me remain awake, was the chatter on mydd and the green screen. I had visions of all of the things Colbert will do with that green screen, and it made me smile.

That was good, because I must say McCain’s biography and Fred Thompson’s introduction scared me to death. McCain was thankfully boring and not frightening. However I did get these horrible images of Fred Thompson, Joe Leiberman, and John McCain in the White House for the next four years, and had a very nasty zombie nightmare early this morning. I loves me some zombie movies, but perhaps I need to cut back.

I did not watch Palin as I was out Thursday night. I am not yet prepared, to subject myself to Mrs Palin. What I find odd, is that many of the people who tried to say that Obama or Clinton are not experienced or qualified to be POTUS, are giving Palin a total pass. I feel that John McCain’s choice of Sara Palin to be a terribly shameful objectification of women for the purpose of winning the White House. Sara Palin is the only person running on the national tickets that has not earned her spot. For the republicans to use the worst kind of tokenism is disgusting. Does McCain think he could not die? How does he really think a President Palin would do?

Dear, dear God,

Dear, dear God,

I know that I was just the itsy bitsyist upset with you in the letter I wrote you the other day, but Praise Be, You do know best! I now realize that this little hurricane might just be the best darn thing that ever happened to the God Fearing Republican Party this year.

While I am so disappointed not to see President Bush and Vice President Cheny at our convention in person this week, (I do understand that these good men are not well thought of in our nation right now). I just know they will both be seen as heroes in the future, as we know that even Jesus was scorned in his time. So I understand that we really dodged the bird doo doo here, because he needs to help out THOSE pitiful people in the Gulf, from the safety of Texas of course.
